5 Hero Changes That Reshape MLBB Season 42 in Malaysia
Published: 2026-09-25
Patch 2.2.16 launched Season 42 "Starward Decade" on 16 September 2026 with 12 buffs, 6 nerfs and two full reworks. The single biggest change is Masha, redesigned as a Berserker with a three-HP-bar mechanic that will reshape how her mains build Physical Attack. Argus climbs the same way, gaining 30% initial crit chance and an ultimate that now hits for 300–600 instead of 150–300. Aldous grinds slower but caps higher, with Soul Steal stacks reaching 1,000 rather than 650. Bonus damage per stack fell from 5 to 3, and we do the math on that below.
This is the anniversary season. The Sanctum Island map has been retextured, three new battlefield effects were added, and free 10th Anniversary rewards drop on a schedule that runs through 9 October. If you play from KL or Johor Bahru and are still deciding whether to spend on the anniversary Battle Pass, our order page for MLBB Diamonds at REDX Game is the cheapest way to load MYR onto the account this month.
What Malaysian Ranked Actually Feels Like Now
The three-HP-bar rework on Masha is the reason most Mythical Immortal streamers are relearning her. She now enters her Feral state by breaking an enemy's wound, which rewards initiation over kite-poke play. Yamato of TODAK described the change on stream the day of release as "senang gila untuk snowball", easy to snowball with once you learn the pattern.
Bruno's Volley Shot base damage was cut from 100-225 to 75-150. That is a 33% reduction at level one. It takes him from a punish-the-lane marksman to one who needs items to matter. Miya lost 5 damage per Moonlight Shadow tick, dropping from 30 to 25. She was already outclassed by Melissa in the meta, and this drops her further. Melissa and Karina both received nerfs of their own, which pushes the marksman lane back toward Wanwan and Layla.
Patch 2.2.16 in One List
These are the changes a Selangor Red Giants scrim caller would highlight before drafting for Season 42:
- Masha: full rework, three HP bars, wound-break Feral state
- Bruno: Volley Shot base 100-225 → 75-150 (heavy nerf)
- Argus: 30% initial crit chance, ultimate 150-300 → 300-600
- Aldous: Soul Steal cap 650 → 1,000, bonus per stack 5 → 3
- Aulus, Lukas and 9 others: jungle and EXP buffs to help underperforming picks catch up
- Team Bounty: threshold lowered from 2,000 to 1,500 gold deficit, so comebacks arrive sooner
- Creep gold: Horned Lizard, Fire Beetle and Lava Golem yield cut by 13%
The bounty change is the one nobody has finished modelling, because a team down 1,500 gold now opens the comeback pool that used to require a 2,000 deficit, which shifts the arithmetic of when a losing squad can afford to force an objective fight and start walking gold back. Roughly, that hands one earlier shutdown per losing team per game, worth around 300–500 gold per kill depending on streaks. In late-game teamfights that arithmetic decides whether a Petaling Jaya stack loses the base or holds it long enough for their carry to respawn with a fresh Wind of Nature and reset the fight from a controlled angle.
Aldous is stronger, not weaker, and here is the math
The stack cap rose by 350 while damage per stack fell by 2. Full-stack Aldous now adds 3,000 bonus damage instead of the old ceiling of 3,250, which reads like a nerf. It is not. Old Aldous needed 130 stacks to reach 650 bonus damage, then flatlined. New Aldous keeps scaling past that point, and each stack from 131 to 1,000 continues to add 3 damage. An Aldous who used to fight at 650 stacks now fights at 800 to 900. His bonus lands at 2,400–2,700 in that range rather than 3,250, but only because he never made it to 1,000 before. If he does, he crosses the old ceiling. Liquipedia's patch page lists the raw numbers if you want to verify.
The Anniversary Calendar
The 10th Anniversary event runs on top of the patch. Nana's Stardust Dreamer opened it on 4 September, Chou's Starforger's Glory landed on 18 September, and Layla's Prismatic Rhythm, the free Collector Skin drop, is dated 9 October. Between now and then there are event-only tokens to grind, and the shop refresh on 25 September added the Super Like store where exclusive rewards are redeemed.
The free Random Epic Skin (choose one of 50) is claimable through the anniversary hub. It costs nothing but time, so it does not qualify as a reason to top up when compared against the paid Battle Pass and Starlight cards that anchor a real Malaysian spend budget for the anniversary window. What is a reason to top up: the Starlight and Battle Pass, both of which the anniversary season has price-locked at the same MYR tier they held in May. Loading RM 50 at REDX Game clears one month of the pass with change left for a Twilight Card. That is boleh tahan value for a mid-season player.
FAQ
When did MLBB Patch 2.2.16 go live in Malaysia?
Patch 2.2.16 launched globally on 16 September 2026 (all times MYT, GMT+8). Season 42 Starward Decade started the same day, and the anniversary event window runs through 9 October 2026.
Is Aldous buffed or nerfed in Season 42?
Both. The Soul Steal cap moved from 650 to 1,000 (a buff at the top end) but the bonus damage per stack moved from 5 to 3 (a nerf at low-to-mid stacks). Old cap 3,250; new cap 3,000. The ramp reaches farther, so a full-game Aldous ends more matches above the old ceiling than below it.
Which hero is the biggest winner in Patch 2.2.16?
Argus. A 30% initial crit chance plus an ultimate rebalance to 300–600 damage restores him as a solo-lane pick. Masha's rework is bigger in scope but harder to pilot; Argus is instantly usable.
Where can I top up MLBB Diamonds in Malaysia this month?
REDX Game processes MLBB top-ups in MYR through DuitNow QR, TNG eWallet, Boost and FPX with 1–3 minute advertised delivery, and no App Store forex spread. That is a RM 15 saving on the RM 50 tier against Apple's price for the same 430 Diamonds.
Is the 10th Anniversary Layla skin free?
Yes. Layla's Prismatic Rhythm collector skin drops free through the anniversary event, dated 9 October 2026. No Diamond spend is required. The Random Epic Skin (choose 1 of 50) is also free from the anniversary hub.
Which Reworked Heroes to Try First
New players who own five heroes or fewer should not touch Masha yet. She is strong. Her three-HP-bar mechanic asks you to trade differently to every other tank in the roster. The tutorial does not teach it. Argus is the easier crossover pick. His 30% initial crit chance rewards a straight critical build (Berserker's Fury into Blade of Despair). The new ultimate turns a losing 1v1 into a winning one. Aulus benefits from the ramp-up compression the same way, since his damage window closed too late in the previous patch. Start there, and once you are comfortable moving into her wound-break Feral state on cooldown, queue Masha in Classic first so a misread does not tank a ranked game before you have felt out how the new mechanic times against a Malaysian Mythic lobby. Skins for these heroes are already listed at REDX Game.
Local Read: Malaysian Ranked in the New Meta
The KL scene has spent the week testing Argus and Aulus in scrims, with Selangor Red Giants and Team SMG both pulling Argus into first-phase drafts on stream. Junglers in Penang are still on Aulus because the ramp-up compression finally makes him viable versus Fanny. Petaling Jaya squads are running Masha in Classic first, not ranked, until the wound-break timing settles. The rank reset landed with the season, and reaching Mythic before the anniversary event closes on 9 October is the practical goal most Malaysian players are setting.
That is a lot of ranked hours. If you plan to buy the season pass through them, Top up MLBB Diamonds at REDX Game keeps the RM 50 tier at 430 Diamonds and processes it through Malaysian rails. Do not overpay to catch the anniversary reward window. Diamond cost is the same whether you top up in KL or in Kuching, and REDX Game keeps the MYR pricing honest.
